The one-year OKX security review: settings that quietly go stale
When you open an exchange account you make a series of choices: which email to link, which phone number, which verification method, which devices to trust. A year later many of those choices no longer fit. You may have changed phones, moved house, stopped using a trading tool or started using a password manager. Nothing breaks, so nothing prompts you to look. Yet stale settings are exactly what attackers exploit. This guide suggests an annual review of your OKX security settings, ideally on the anniversary of opening the account, so that the protection matches your current life rather than last year's.
Devices and sessions
Open the list of trusted devices and active sessions. Remove every phone, tablet and computer you no longer use, including ones you sold or gave away. Check the login history for any entries you cannot explain. Keep the list as short as possible. If you see a device you do not recognise, change your password immediately and review the remaining settings before doing anything else.
Verification methods and recovery codes
Confirm which two-step verification methods are active and whether they still live on devices you own. If you still rely only on SMS, consider adding an authenticator app or a passkey. Check that your written recovery codes are where you think they are and still readable. If you replaced your phone during the year, make sure the authenticator moved correctly and the old one was removed.
Email, phone and anti-phishing code
Make sure the linked email is one you still use daily and that it has its own strong password and two-step verification. Confirm the phone number is current. Check that the anti-phishing code is set and that you remember it. Read a recent genuine email from the platform to confirm the code appears. Update anything outdated through the official settings, expecting a short security hold afterwards.
Withdrawal addresses and API keys
Go through the withdrawal address book and delete addresses you no longer use or cannot identify. Enable an allowlist if it is available and you are not using it yet. Review API keys, removing any linked to tools you stopped using and ensuring the rest have minimal permissions. Note the date of this review in your records and set a reminder for next year.
Risk boundary: OKX Independent Review
Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
Scenario checkpoint
- Remove sold, replaced or unused devices from the trusted device list during the review.
- Confirm recovery codes are still stored safely and readable on paper at home.
- Check that a recent genuine email shows your anti-phishing code correctly.
- Delete stale withdrawal addresses and API keys and set a reminder for next year.
