Verifying with OKX when your passport country is not the country you live in

Guides · 2026-10-16

Identity verification forms look simple until the two country fields disagree. Many OKX users are a Filipino nurse in Dubai, a German engineer in Singapore or a Brazilian student in Lisbon: the passport says one thing, the rental contract another. OKX asks about both, and the answers decide which entity serves the account, which products appear and which documents the reviewers expect. Getting this right at the start is far easier than changing it after a rejection or a restriction. This review looks at the flow from the point of view of someone in exactly that situation.

Nationality and residence are separate questions

During verification the form usually asks for the country that issued your document and, separately, the country where you live. Answer both literally. The issuing country is whatever is printed on the passport or ID card you upload. Residence is where you actually live and could show a utility bill or tenancy agreement for. Choosing your home country as residence because the app looked more familiar, or because a friend said it unlocks more features, creates a record you may later have to explain, and it can lead to a request for documents you cannot provide.

Which document to upload

A passport is usually the safest choice for someone living abroad, because it is accepted widely and its machine-readable zone is easy for automated checks. A local residence card can also work in some countries and may be useful as a second document. Check the list of accepted documents shown in the verification flow for your selected residence before you start; it changes by country. Photograph the document flat, in daylight, with all four corners visible and no glare across the photo or the code lines at the bottom.

Proof of address when your name is not on the bills

Higher verification levels may ask for proof of address. Expats often share housing or have bills in a landlord's name. Look at the accepted proof-of-address types listed in the flow: bank statements, official letters and tenancy contracts are common examples, but the list for your country is what counts. The document should show your full name as it appears on your passport and a recent date. If your local bank prints your name in a different order or spelling, upload the passport first and expect the reviewer to compare the two carefully.

When you move again

Residence is not permanent, and OKX expects you to keep it current. If you relocate, look in the identity or profile section for an option to update your country of residence, or contact support through the help centre. Some products may become unavailable after the update and others may appear. Before moving, withdraw or close anything that the new residence might not support, and read the notice OKX shows when you change the setting rather than assuming everything carries over.

Risk boundary: OKX Independent Review

Digital assets are volatile and derivatives can amplify losses. This website has no login, wallet connection, deposit form or customer-support chat. A referral link only records attribution; it does not guarantee access, pricing, rewards, approval or investment results. Availability can differ by residence, legal entity and product, so no regional access is assumed from language or branding alone.
